Mosiria tells Nairobians to wear masks in CBD due to overpolluted air

Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has called on Nairobians to wear masks when visiting the Central Business District (CBD) due to the overpopulated air.
Mosiria, who pointed out other areas with overpolluted air within Nairobi, has also revealed that Nairobians can now check the quality of air they breathe through a newly established website by the county government.
In a recent revelation, Mosiria took to his official X account on Thursday, September 4, 2025, where he announced that the Nairobi County government has established a site that will have Nairobians check the quality of air they breathe.
“Kwa sasa tunaambia wananchi wa Juja Road, Woodley, Kibra na CBD waweze kuvalia mask kwa sababu hewa ambayo iko pale is not healthy for human consumption,” Mosiria stated.
“You can check the quality of air we breathe in Nairobi through the official Nairobi County website,” Mosiria said.
According to Mosiria, the Nairobi County government has installed at least 87 air quality monitoring machines across different parts of the city to help us track and improve the air Nairobians breathe.
“So far, we have installed 87 air quality monitoring machines across different parts of the city to help us track and improve the air we breathe,” said Mosiria.
Mosiria is now calling on all Nairobi residents to regularly check and monitor air quality levels and take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of many respiratory diseases.
“We encourage all Nairobi residents to regularly check and monitor air quality levels and take necessary precautions. By doing so, we can protect ourselves and reduce the risk of many respiratory diseases,” Mosiria noted.

Mosiria storms market
Mosiria’s announcement follows a recent stern warning to Eastleigh vendors operating alongside the road reserves to vacate immediately, while firmly stating that failure to do so will attract a strict enforcement action.
Mosiria, who stormed Eastleigh market on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, revealed that doing business in Eastleigh is a nightmare because of the vendors who conduct business in the wrong places at the expense of public order and safety.
“We cannot allow a few individuals in Eastleigh to conduct business in the wrong places at the expense of public order and safety. At the moment, accessing a shop or doing business in Eastleigh is a nightmare; anyone driving into the area can take not less than five hours due to the congestion,” Mosiria stated.
Mosiria, while warning the vendors, noted that the hawkers are now operating on the actual road, blocking access to the extent that residents cannot even receive emergency services—ambulances and fire engines are unable to reach patients.
“This is unacceptable. Hawkers are now operating on the actual road, blocking access to the extent that residents cannot even receive emergency services—ambulances and fire engines are unable to reach patients or respond to emergencies along Jam Street because of hawkers and private cars obstructing the way,” he added.
