Mosiria calls on Nairobi CBD building owners to renovate and light up properties

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Customer Engagement Geoffrey Mosiria has called on all owners of buildings in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) to repaint, renovate and repair properties that look old or neglected as part of efforts to improve the city.
Mosiria said building owners should also light up their buildings at night and play their part in making Nairobi more welcoming, vibrant and attractive. He said this should complement street lighting provided by the government and improve the appearance of the CBD.
“Just as the government provides street lighting, building owners should play their part by illuminating their properties and making the city more welcoming, vibrant, and attractive,” Mosiria said on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
He said the changes would help Nairobi achieve the dignity, energy and international appeal seen in other major cities around the world. He added that the condition of the CBD was important to plans for a 24/7 working economy.
“A well-lit, clean, and vibrant CBD is essential if we want Nairobi to become a truly 24/7 working economy,” Mosiria said.
Improving the CBD
Mosiria also proposed changes to the location of nightclubs and entertainment venues, saying they should be moved away from residential areas. He said they should be placed in designated areas within or around the CBD to reduce noise pollution.
“This should also include relocating nightclubs and entertainment venues from residential areas to designated areas within or around the CBD,” Mosiria said.
Mosiria said relocating the venues would help minimise noise pollution in residential neighbourhoods while restoring order and improving the quality of life in estates. He said the changes should form part of efforts to create a cleaner, better-maintained and properly planned Nairobi.
“This is how we can give Nairobi the dignity, energy, and international vibe it deserves, just like other major cities around the world,” Mosiria said.
He said improving buildings, lighting and the location of entertainment venues would contribute to the kind of city residents could be proud of. Mosiria said building owners also had a role to play in maintaining their properties and supporting improvements in the CBD.
He said the improvements would make the city more attractive at night and support a better environment for people working and living there.
“A clean, well-maintained, well-lit, and properly planned Nairobi is a Nairobi we can all be proud of,” Mosiria said.
