Former Economic Advisor to President William Ruto, Moses Kuria, has bashed critics of ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga over what he described as insensitive remarks regarding the veteran politician’s health.

Through a post shared on X on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Kuria said he was deeply hurt by some leaders who have been using public rallies to politicise Raila’s condition.

Kuria regrets those attacking Raila

He recounted how in 2020, while battling COVID-19 for 40 days in the hospital, Raila risked his own safety to visit him.

“In 2020, during COVID, I was hospitalised for 40 days. Baba Raila Amolo Odinga risked his life and visited me in the hospital.

In late 2021 and early 2022, I was hospitalised for five months. Baba visited me three times at Karen Hospital and once in Dubai. That was at a time I was in Tanga Tanga and Baba was in Azimio,” Kuria wrote.

He went on to condemn leaders making jokes about Raila’s health, terming their remarks cruel and uncalled for.

“This most compassionate man is the one some monkeys are saying bad things about in political rallies. This pains me to the core. Politics is not everything. I hate you all,” he added.

Gachagua distances himself from health rumours

Earlier on Monday, October 6, 2025, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had dismissed claims linking him and Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka to misinformation about Raila’s health.

Speaking during a rally in Ukambani, Gachagua said ODM was wrong to drag his name into what he called a non-issue.

“Nmeona jana watu ya ODM wakileta upuuzi. Ati huyo mzee wao ako na matatizo. Sasa wanataka kuekelea Kalonzo na mimi. Kalonzo ni virus, yeye ni bacteria, sasa mambo ya ugonjwa Kalonzo anatokea wapi?” he posed.

Gachagua added that he wished Raila good health, stating that the opposition wanted him to be strong enough to face the 2027 elections.

“We want the best for Raila. We want him to stay with Ruto up to the 2027 polls so that we send both of them home,” he said.

His remarks came amid growing online speculation over Raila’s whereabouts and health status, which ODM officials have repeatedly dismissed as false.

The party maintains that Raila is well and continues to lead the movement as usual.
