Millie Odhiambo: There is no war within ODM, Winnie Odinga is grieving

Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has come out strongly dismissing allegations of a possible fallout within the Orange Democratic Movement amid recent transition calls by Winnie Odinga.
Speaking on Monday, November 17, 2025, during an interview with a local media house, Millie Odhiambo linked Winnie’s recent remarks to her grieving while dismissing any ODM fallout.

“When you said the war within your headlines regarding Winnie, I don’t even think it is a war within ODM; I think one of the things that people are misunderstanding about Winnie is that we want to make Odinga superhuman,” Millie said.
On her part, Millie Odhiambo explained how deep grief is, especially now for Winnie Odinga, who lost her father, whom she adored and walked with almost everywhere.
“Winnie is a young girl who has lost her father, whom she adored. She walked with her father everywhere. Grief is something deep for a person you love, for a person who mattered to me,” she added.
She went on explaining why Kenyans should understand her grieving season while allowing Winnie Odinga to be superhuman.
“So Winnie is grieving, but we want her to be superhuman, and she’s a young lady, so even if Winnie told me I was the most stupid person, if she told me, ‘Millie, you are an elephant right now,’ I’ll understand,” Millie said.

Winnie Odinga’s remarks on ODM next move
Her remarks come after Winnie Odinga proposed the formation of a fresh National Delegates Conference (NDC) within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to determine who will take charge of managing the party’s relationship with the broad-based government.
Speaking during ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Winnie Odinga explained that the management of the relationship between ODM and the Kenya Kwanza government had previously been entrusted solely to Raila Odinga because of its complexity.
“I want to tell party leaders that when it came to the matter of the broad-based government, the people of ODM had entrusted only one person with the management of that relationship, and that person was Raila Odinga,” Winnie said.
Winnie raised concerns over those taking it upon themselves to handle the relationship in his absence and emphasised that it is a matter for the party members to decide.
She therefore called for a fresh NDC to formally select the person or team who will oversee and manage the engagement with the broad-based government going forward.
She noted that the conference would provide the party a platform to make collective decisions and ensure that leadership roles and strategic responsibilities are managed transparently and according to party structures.
“That relationship is complicated, and we are now wondering about those taking it upon themselves to manage it in his absence. I do not think this is a question for me to answer; it is a question for the people of ODM to decide. That is why I am requesting a fresh National Delegates Conference to see who the party will pick to manage that relationship,” Winnie said.
