ODM postpones grassroots elections in Kasipul and East Kamagak

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced the postponement of its planned grassroots elections in parts of Homa Bay County, citing adjustments to its earlier schedule.
In an official statement issued by the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECO) on Monday, August 28, 2025, the party said the elections for East Kamagak Ward and Kasipul Constituency, which had been slated for Wednesday, August 20, 2025, and Thursday, August 21, 2025, respectively, will not proceed as planned.
“Pursuant to the Notice dated 18 August 2025, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECO wishes to notify all Party members and stakeholders of the following correction,” the NECO statement read.
“The grassroots elections for East Kamagak Ward and Kasipul Constituency in Homa Bay County, which had been scheduled for Wednesday, 20 August 2025 and Thursday, 21 August 2025, respectively, stand postponed until further notice.”
According to NECO chairperson Emily Awita, new dates for the two electoral areas will be communicated in due course. She further urged members and stakeholders to remain patient as the party finalises the revised timelines.
“Fresh dates shall be duly communicated in due course. Members in the affected electoral areas are advised to remain patient and await the official communication on the rescheduled timelines,” the statement read.

Grassroots elections
The ODM reviewed elections targeting unity ahead of the 2027 polls during a Central Committee meeting chaired by party leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
In a statement after the meeting, ODM said the committee had “received and adopted the report of the National Elections and branch-level elections conducted across the country between April 9th and 11th, 2025.”
According to the statement, “The Committee resolved to conduct elections between August 11 and August 15, 2025, under the supervision of the National Elections Board.” This move is aimed at addressing gaps in representation and ensuring the party’s internal democratic processes are upheld across all regions.
The party emphasised that the NDC will be a strategic platform to “review and chart the path forward in readiness for the 2027 general elections”.
The resolutions are part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate the party’s structures and rally supporters ahead of the next political contest.
