Ruto, Raila hold joint ODM–Kenya Kwanza parliamentary talks

Members of Parliament from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have convened for a high-level meeting chaired by President William Ruto.
The meeting, held in Karen, Nairobi, on Monday, August 18, 2025, is aimed at discussing the broad-based partnership between Ruto’s UDA and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM.
Leaders from both parties are in attendance.
The Monday meeting comes just days after President Ruto, while in Migori on Thursday, August 14, announced that UDA would work closely with ODM.
At the time, he disclosed that the discussions would focus on strengthening collaboration between the two parties.
“We (ODM and Kenya Kwanza) agreed to work together to create a country that works for every Kenyan and to design policies that grow our national income,” he said.
NADCO discussions
In addition, the Head of State acknowledged that Monday’s meeting would also explore ways of establishing strong mechanisms to guide the partnership as both parties work together towards uniting the country.

“We have agreed that on Monday (August 18), we are going to have a broad-based government meeting between lawmakers from ODM and their counterparts from Kenya Kwanza to agree on how we are going to create strong mechanisms and unite the country to push it forward,” Ruto stated.
Meanwhile, according to President Ruto, the meeting will include a follow-up on the formation of a five-member technical committee tasked with overseeing the implementation of the 10-point Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between UDA and ODM in March this year.
Worth noting, in July, ODM, led by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, had announced that the committee’s formation was the missing link in the implementation of the ten-point agenda.
The Committee would address the lack of full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, the protection of young Kenyans, and adherence to the right to peaceful assembly, critical issues raised by ODM in the MoU.
“To expedite the implementation of the ten-point agenda in the MoU, ODM will constitute a technical team to work with our UDA counterpart to assist with the implementation of the agreement,” Sifuna said.
