Police officers in Nyeri have arrested a man found with at least 15 kilograms of coffee cherries, following a report from a concerned farmer.

In a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS) on Sunday, September 14, 2025, police said the arrest happened after a resident of Kagumo Village spotted a stranger stealing from his farm and alerted authorities.

With the assistance of members of the public, the officers managed to apprehend the individual and recover the stolen coffee cherries. The person of interest was taken into custody and is expected to face charges in court.

“Today, 14th September 2025, police officers at Witima Police Station received a report from a resident of Kagumo Village in Nyeri County that he had encountered an unknown individual harvesting coffee on his farm. The officers responded promptly and, with the assistance of members of the public, managed to apprehend the person of interest, who had picked approximately 15 kilograms of coffee. The individual is currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment in court. National Police Service remains steadfast in its commitment to serve and protect the public,” NPS stated.

The arrest follows another recent operation in the coastal region targeting drug traffickers and street gangs.

On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the NPS reported that officers from Mtwapa Police Station carried out an intelligence-led crackdown in Kipapuro and Mzambarauni areas, on the outskirts of Mtwapa town.

“On 9th September 2025, National Police Service officers from Mtwapa Police Station conducted an intelligence-led crackdown on drug traffickers and muggers in the Kipapuro and Mzambarauni areas on the outskirts of Mtwapa town,” the police statement read.

During the operation, officers arrested four persons of interest and seized narcotics believed to be cannabis.

“They arrested four persons of interest and seized 55 rolls of cannabis,” police said.

The four were taken into custody at Mtwapa Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court.

“The persons of interest were escorted to the station and placed in custody, pending arraignment in court, while the evidence was secured at the same facility,” NPS added.
