Diamond reads Bible in public for first time, praises Joel Lwaga for pushing him to love God

Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz has publicly read passages from the Bible for the first time at an event, before turning his attention to gospel singer Joel Lwaga and praising him for continually teaching him about God.
Diamond made the revelation during the ‘Nikumbuke’ event on Sunday, September 27, 2026, where Lwaga celebrated his birthday by spending time with people with special needs at Superdome in Masaki.
While addressing those gathered at the event, Diamond opened the Bible and read passages from the Book of Luke, chapter five, verses 31 and 32, before also referring to an account in the Book of Matthew.
“Luke 5:31-32, Jesus said, ‘Those who are healthy do not need a doctor, but those who are sick do,’” Diamond said.
He went on to explain the message behind the scripture, questioning the purpose of taking a doctor to people who are already healthy instead of those who need medical attention.
“And what that means is, if you take a doctor to people who are healthy, what help does that offer?” he said.
Diamond then turned to Matthew 9:12-13, recalling the account in which Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners.
“But in Matthew 9:12-13, Jesus ate together with tax collectors and sinners and said, ‘I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners,’” he said.
The singer went on to explain that the passage reflected what he described as the true meaning of service, particularly the need to reach people who require help rather than concentrating on those who are already doing well.
“Because that is the meaning of providing a service. It is about making a person see that there is a way to do things differently. That is the true meaning,” Diamond said.
After reading the biblical passages, Diamond turned his attention to Lwaga, whom he praised for repeatedly using their encounters to teach him about matters concerning God.
“Joel, I respect you so much because every time I meet you, you teach me about the things of God,” Diamond said.
The singer explained that Lwaga regularly speaks to him about his faith and encourages him to think beyond his immediate circumstances.
“You tell me many things concerning God and you also advise me about tomorrow,” he said.
Diamond contrasted Lwaga’s conversations with him with the kind of discussions young people often have when they meet their friends.
“You know, when young people meet, you talk about different things, but Joel tries to pull you out of that,” Diamond said.
He added that Lwaga does not hesitate to speak to him about God regardless of Diamond’s public image or the clothes he may be wearing at the time.
“And he sees that I am wearing a kanzu, but he still preaches to me,” Diamond said.
