Makadara MP Aladwa must apologise to Nairobi MCAs over his remarks – Alai
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has demanded that Makadara MP George Aladwa apologise to Nairobi Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) over the remarks made, which they consider disrespectful and demeaning.
Alai said while President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga’s intentions in addressing the assembly were “nice and appropriate,” Aladwa’s comments suggested that MCAs were juniors to Members of Parliament, a perception that he insisted was both wrong and unfair.
“I don’t think some of the leaders, especially those who have been very dormant in the National Assembly, are fair to fellow elective leaders because they assume just because we are MCAs, we are their juniors. That is not so because the people all directly elect us,” Alai stated.
According to Alai, Aladwa further upset MCAs when he claimed they would struggle to secure political tickets, as they had lives before entering politics.
The remarks, he said, were both hurtful and disrespectful, particularly to first-time ward representatives who are just beginning their political journeys.
“He actually said that, and we even told him off. He apologised to us yesterday, but we told him he had to apologise properly because some of the things he said were not only disrespectful but also hurtful. For some of the people in that assembly, this is their first time in elective politics, and if that is going to be their experience, it will affect how they engage in national governance,” Alai added.

The MCA further cautioned that such dismissive attitudes toward ward leaders risk undermining Kenya’s democratic governance and the spirit of collective responsibility.
“I don’t think it is very fair to the governance of this country. The collective responsibility we have requires us to respect one another and hold each other to account,” he said.
Sakaja’s impeachment
His remarks come a day after Aladwa announced that Nairobi MCAs had agreed to suspend the impeachment of Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Aladwa was among the leaders who attended a meeting convened by ODM leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Addressing the press after the closed-door meeting, Aladwa said the dialogue had yielded a unanimous decision to temporarily put the impeachment on hold, allowing Sakaja space to address concerns raised by the assembly.
“For the past few hours, we have had discussions where MCAs expressed their issues, and they were heard. With one voice, we agreed that the pending impeachment be postponed and dropped for now.
“We also agreed that the governor should continue with his work, engage constructively, and implement the corrections he has been asked to make in his leadership of Nairobi County,” Aladwa stated.
