A woman identified as Naomi Diana has spoken about the challenges her young son is facing at school after she named him William Ruto in 2022.

Speaking to a local media house, she said she chose the name because she admired President William Ruto when he became president.

“Kwa majina naitwa Naomi Diana. Niko na shida kutoka 2022, mwezi wa tisa wakati Ruto alichukua uongozi. Sababu nilikua nampenda, nikaita mtoto wangu William Ruto,” Naomi Diana said on a local TV station on Friday, June 5, 2026.

She explained that her son is now in PP2 and has reached school-going age. According to her, the child has recently been coming home unhappy and telling her that he no longer wants to return to school.

“Mtoto amefika umri wa kuenda shule, ako PP2, lakini sasa wakiwa shule, mtoto anakuja kila saa akiniambia, mom, sirudi tena huko,” Naomi Diana said.

Naomi said she asked her son why he did not want to continue attending school. She explained that the boy told her other pupils were calling out phrases linked to his name during school activities.

“Namuuliza kwa nini, ananiambia, tukienda break, tukitoka parade, watoto wananiita, Ruto must go, Wantam, sasa mom, mimi siendi huko,” she said.

Life at school becomes difficult

The mother said the situation has become difficult for her son because the chants are repeated by groups of pupils. She explained that the child feels uncomfortable whenever the other children gather around him.

“Halafu wanakuja wengi, wana ni surround, Ruto must go,” Naomi Diana said.

According to Naomi, her son has even suggested possible solutions to the problem. She said the boy asked whether he could be transferred to a different school or have his name changed.

“Mom si unibadilishe shule ama unibadilishe jina,” Naomi Diana said while recalling her son’s request.

The mother said she does not intend to change the child’s name. She explained that she chose the name because of her admiration for President Ruto and believes it should not interfere with her son’s education.

“Nikamwambia, I can not change the name because I love Ruto. Na jina haiwezi ku affect usisome,” Naomi Diana said.

She also expressed concern about the situation and said she remains worried about the tension she has observed around the issue.

“Sasa hofu yangu ni tangu nione ule mama amechomwa, sijui tension ya watu ni gani,” Naomi Diana said.
