M-Pesa set to temporarily shut down on Monday morning

Safaricom has announced a temporary shutdown of its popular mobile money service, M-Pesa, to allow for scheduled system maintenance.
In an official statement, the telecommunications company said the maintenance is set to take place on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 1:00 am to 1:30 am.
During this 30-minute window, all M-Pesa services will be intermittently unavailable. This means customers may experience difficulty sending or receiving money, paying bills, accessing banking services via M-Pesa, or using any other M-Pesa-related features during that time.
“We are continuously innovating and enhancing our services to connect our customers with endless possibilities. To meet our promise to always offer Reliable, Safe, Secure and a Superior customer experience, we will be conducting a scheduled system maintenance on the night of Monday 7th April 2025 starting from 01.00 am to 1.30 am,” the statement read in part.

Safaricom explained that the scheduled maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to improve customer experience. The company said it is constantly working to enhance its services and keep up with growing customer demands.
According to Safaricom, the maintenance has been timed to take place in the early hours of the morning in order to minimize disruptions. While M-Pesa services will be affected, all other Safaricom services including calls, SMS, and data will continue to work as normal.
Safaricom emphasized that maintenance is necessary to ensure the reliability, safety, and security of its services, which millions of Kenyans depend on every day.
“During the 30-minute maintenance period, all M-PESA services will be available intermittently. All other Safaricom services including calls, data and SMS services will be available uninterrupted. The timing of this maintenance has been planned to result in the least inconvenience to our customers.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for choosing us as your trusted service provider,” the statement read further.
