The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) says it has not ranked schools for the 2020 KCSE results.

The examination body took to its social media to dismiss a list going viral on social media as the official ranking of top schools countrywide.

KNEC says the list is fake and has asked members of the public to ignore it.

“KNEC wishes to advise the public to ignore lists circulating in social media purported to be a genuine ranking of the KCSE 2020 Examination results. The Council has not ranked schools in the results released today. All lists are therefore Fake,” KNEC said.

The examination body stopped the ranking of schools years back to curb the runaway cases of cheating that was catalysed by unnecessary competition among schools.

The fake list ranked Kenya High School the top school with a KCSE mean of 10.467, Kapsabet was ranked second with a mean of 10.11, Kisima Mixed Secondary was ranked third with a mean of 10.11. Alliance High School was ranked 4th with a mean of 10.019.

The Education CS Prof George Magoha released the KCSE results on Monday after briefing President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House.

Robinson Wanjala from Murang’a Boys High School was the top student countrywide. Allan Wasonga of Agoro Sare became second.

Over 700,000 sat for 2020 KCSE results.

A total of 143,140 students scored a mean grade of C+ and above.

287 candidates missed their exam over irregularities.
