Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary closure of five major highways in Nairobi County on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

In a public notice posted on Friday, September 27, 2024, KURA stated that the 6 am to 2 pm temporary closure will affect motorists plying the routes of Uhuru Highway, Haile Sellasie Avenue, Bunyala Road, Lower Hill Road and a section of Langata Road.

KURA general director Silas Kinoti attributed the temporary closure to a cycling event dubbed ‘Grand Nairobi Bike Race’ which is scheduled to take place on September 29, 2024.

Kinoti further urged motorists to use alternative routes and follow the guide by the traffic police and the marshal.

“We wish to notify the general public that sections of Langata Road, Uhuru Highway, Haile Sellasie Avenue, Bunyala Road and Lower Hill Road, will be closed on Sunday 29th, September 2024 as from 6 Am-2 Pm,”Kinoti said.

“This is due to the Grand Nairobi Bike Race scheduled to take place on Sunday, 29th September 2024. We urge motorists to use alternative routes and to follow guide by traffic police and marshals. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the event.”
