KURA announces 2-week partial closure on section of Ngong Road
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary night closure on a section of the Ngong/Naivasha Road junction near Junction Mall to allow for ongoing road improvement works.
According to a notice posted on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the closure will take effect from Monday, May 18, 2026, to Sunday, May 31, 2026.
The affected section will be closed daily during night hours from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am, with normal traffic flow resuming during the day.
“We wish to notify the general public that the section of Ngong Road / Naivasha Road at the Junction Mall will be partially closed as from Monday 18th, May 2026 till Sunday 31st, May 2026, both days inclusive. The closing will be carried from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM,” KURA noted.

KURA stated that the closure is necessary to facilitate asphalt works, which form part of the final stages of road construction and upgrading in the area. The works aim to improve road quality, durability, and overall urban mobility along the busy Ngong Road corridor.
Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys and use alternative routes during the affected hours to avoid delays.
The Ngong Road/Naivasha Road junction is one of Nairobi’s busiest intersections, serving as a key link connecting Ngong Town, Karen, and Rongai to the CBD. As a result, the night closure is expected to have an impact on late-evening and overnight commuters, especially public service vehicles and freight transport.
KURA apologised for any inconvenience caused, noting that the temporary disruption is part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure in Nairobi and surrounding urban areas.
Flyover project
The development comes as the Ngong/Naivasha Road junction has been undergoing major upgrades in recent years, including the construction of a new flyover aimed at easing long-standing traffic congestion.
President William Ruto on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, confirmed that the flyover near Junction Mall is 85 per cent complete and is expected to be fully finished by June 2026.
According to the president, the project is part of wider efforts to modernise Nairobi’s transport infrastructure and improve mobility along the busy corridor.
