The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption on the Nairobi-bound carriageway of the A8 Road.

In an advisory shared on Friday, December 6, 2024, the affected stretch lies between FUSO (Simba Colt) and the Southern Bypass Interchange near Ole Sereni.

According to KeNHA, the partial closure, which will facilitate essential highway maintenance, is set to begin on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10:00 pm and will last for seven days, ending on Friday, December 13, 2024.

“Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to notify the public of the temporary partial closure of the Nairobi-bound carriageway on A8 Road between FUSO (Simba Colt) and the Southern Bypass Interchange (Ole Sereni) for seven (7) days, from Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10.00 pm to Friday December 13, 2024, to facilitate essential highway maintenance works along this section,” KeNHA announced.

Alternative routes

According to the highways authority advisory, heavy vehicles weighing over 3.5 tonnes and motorists heading to the Southern Bypass will be diverted. These vehicles are required to exit the main highway at the Kyang’ombe Slip Road and use Old Mombasa Road as an alternative route.

Other vehicles will use a single lane that will remain open on the affected section to allow limited traffic flow.

KeNHA highlighted the importance of caution for motorists driving through the area during the maintenance period. They urged road users to adhere to the traffic management plan provided and to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be on-site to ensure smooth operations.

“Motorists are requested to exercise caution around the work areas, follow the proposed traffic management plan herein and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” KeNHA stated
