KNH admits 24 injured people after road accident near Nairobi Serena Hotel

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has reported receiving 24 individuals, 11 women and 13 men, who were injured in a road accident that occurred on Monday, October 13, 2025, night in Nairobi.
This follows a mass casualty accident that involved a Citi Hoppa bus that occurred along Kenyatta Avenue near the Serena Hotel on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at approximately 12:30 am.

“Kenyatta National Hospital received a total of 24 casualties — 11 females and 13 males — following a mass casualty incident that occurred along Kenyatta Avenue near Serena Hotel on 14th October 2025 at approximately 12:30 a.m. The incident involved a CityHoppa bus,” KNH said in X post on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

“Upon notification, the KNH Emergency Response Team was immediately activated and worked swiftly to ensure that all the affected individuals received timely and appropriate medical attention.”
KNH has assured it will continue to monitor the condition of the patients closely and remains committed to providing the highest standards of emergency care to all who need it.
Earlier on, Nairobi City County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria confirmed the accident, saying some victims were trapped under the bus.
Then, he appealed for ambulances to help evacuate the victims.
“I have mobilised all available county ambulances, but they are not enough. If you have an ambulance, please come and assist us immediately,” he said then.

“Finally, we have rescued all the accident victims!” he gave an update later.
Mosiria called upon the police and relevant authorities to reintroduce the Michuki traffic rules.
“Safety belts and speed governors must be enforced, along with strict speed limits within cities like Nairobi,” he said.
He noted that the country has lost lives that could have been saved if drivers had been more careful and followed the law.
“Including the Waruku accident a few days ago and the tragic incident today at Valley Road near Serena,” he added.
Incidentally, the accident happened after the Nairobi Governor, Johnson Sakaja, had directed the Nairobi Traffic Base Commander to take firm action against boda boda riders who drive recklessly on city roads.

Speaking during the Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Nairobi, which was graced by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Sakaja expressed concern over the increasing cases of dangerous riding, often happening openly under the watch of police officers.
I asked very specifically, why would a police officer watch a boda boda rider going on the wrong side of the road or riding anticlockwise on a roundabout and do nothing? Can we agree to stop that and arrest these people?” Sakaja said.
The governor highlighted the heavy toll reckless riding has taken on Nairobi’s youth, pointing out that Boda Boda-related accidents have filled entire wards in city hospitals such as Kenyatta National Hospital and Mama Lucy Hospital.
He revealed that he is a patron of a support group made up of widows of boda boda riders who lost their lives in accidents.
