Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has claimed that thousands of residents from Kisii and Nyamira counties are being mobilised to visit the State House with the promise of receiving money.

Speaking during a TV interview on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Orwoba claimed that mobilizers are contacting people directly, offering Ksh100,000 per person to attend the event scheduled for tomorrow.

“Tomorrow, 5,000–8,000 people from Kisii and Nyamira counties are being shipped to go to the State House. The mobilizers who are calling people are saying that every person who goes to the State House tomorrow is receiving Ksh100,000,” she said.

Orwoba linked the mobilisation to broader issues of political influence and corruption, saying that even before some leaders received their first salaries in office, there were already calls to engage in questionable activities.

“Before the first salary came in, already there were calls to do certain things and money was changing hands,” investigative journalist Dennis Okari remarked during the conversation.

In agreement, Orwoba added, “Already, you could see that the people you had an allegiance to bring change had started being influenced because they were targeting certain committees.”

She suggested that the mobilisation for the State House visit fits into a pattern of using financial incentives to sway political loyalty and manipulate parliamentary processes.

Parliamentary corruption

Orwoba also revisited her past claims about corruption within Parliament, noting that she faced suspension for speaking out. She pointed to President William Ruto’s recent public comments on the same issue, suggesting they echoed her earlier warnings.

“Yesterday, you saw the president speaking about corruption in Parliament. When I spoke about corruption in Parliament, I was suspended. The president is now echoing what I said,” she noted.

The former nominated senator went further, predicting that it would not be long before the head of state admits to other serious issues within his administration. “It is just a matter of time before the president confirms that it is his administration that has the highest number of sexual harassment cases,” she added.

Orwoba’s remarks have sparked debate online, with some demanding proof of the alleged payments for the State House visit and others calling for investigations into her broader claims about corruption and misconduct.
