Kenya Power announces planned power outages in parts of 8 counties on July 16

Kenya Power has announced a planned power maintenance exercise scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025, affecting several areas across eight counties.
In a statement on their official X account, the utility company revealed that the maintenance work will lead to scheduled power outages in parts of Nairobi, Makueni, Nandi, Homabay, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, and Kilifi counties.
“Good evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (16th July, 2025). We regret any inconvenience that may be caused during the operations,” Kenya Power noted.
In Nairobi, areas within Karen, including Seminary Road, CUEA, Magadi Road, and nearby neighbourhoods such as Park Palace, Multimedia, and the Giraffe Centre, will experience power disruptions from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The affected zones also include Banda School and Saifee Park, among others.
“PART OF KAREN DATE: Wednesday 16.07.2025. TIME: 9.00 am – 5.00 pm Seminary Rd, Seminary Drive, CUEA, Bogani East Rd, Part of Magadi Rd, Park Palace, Multimedia, KWS, Mukoma Rd, Ndorobo Rd, Giraffe Centre, Brookhouse, Banda School, Banda Lane, Saifee Park & adjacent customers.”

Makueni County will see outages in Emali, Nziu, and Sultan areas, including Mulala, Kithumani, and Kalamba, with power switched off between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm Nandi County’s Kapnyeria area will also face a similar power suspension during the same hours.
In Homabay County, power will be interrupted in parts of Ndhiwa, including Ojode Pala, Rakoro, and the entire Mfangano Island, where residents and businesses will be without electricity from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Other affected locations within Homabay include Oyugis areas such as Zuri Place and Kauko Primary School.
Nyeri County residents in Kanjuri and Gitima-Ini will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm, with schools and dispensaries among the affected establishments. Tharaka Nithi County’s Marimanti and Gatunga areas will also be impacted starting from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 pm.
“9.00 am – 5.00 pm Kanjuri High Sch, Kanjuri Dispensary, Kanjuri Mkt, Giagathege TBC, Giagathege Village, Kinganga Village, Kiunjugi TBC, Kariambi TBC, Gitima-Ini Mkt, Kihari Village, Gitima-Ini Dispensary, Safaricom Boosters, Airtel Boosters & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power noted.
In Kirinyaga County, power will be unavailable in Togonye, South Ngariama, and adjacent areas between 9:00 am and 5:00 am.
Tharaka Nithi County will also be affected, with parts of Marimanti and Gatunga facing power cuts between 8:30 am. and 5:00 pm. The affected areas include Marimanti town, Tharaka University, Tharaka Technical Institute, Gatunga Market, Gathangachini Safaricom Booster, and Ruungu Booster.
Finally, in Kilifi County, parts of Mariakani town, including Mariakani Secondary School and Polytechnic, will face outages during the maintenance period.
