Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of Kiambu on Thursday, November 13

Kenya Power has issued a notice informing residents and businesses in parts of Kiambu County of a planned power outage on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

According to the utility company, the blackout will affect areas in the North Eastern region of Kiambu, including Kawaida, Kimorori, Gatatha Farmers, Black Petals, Koba Waters, Taka Taka Solutions, Nazareth Hospital, Sycarmore, Gatoni Village, and surrounding neighbourhoods.

Kenya Power, in the notice issued via social media on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, said the scheduled power interruption will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., during which residents and businesses are advised to make alternative arrangements to mitigate the impact of the outage.

Kenya Power attributed the blackout to essential maintenance and upgrade works aimed at enhancing the reliability and stability of electricity supply in the affected areas.

“NORTH EASTERN REGION. PARTS OF KIAMBU COUNTY. AREA: KAWAIDA, KIMORORI. DATE: Thursday 13.11.2025. TIME: 9.00 Α.Μ. – 5.00 Ρ.Μ. Gatatha Farmers Kimorori, Kawaida, Black Petals, Koba Waters, Taka Taka Solutions, Nazareth Hosp, Sycarmore, Gatoni Village & adjacent customers,” the notice read.

Scheduled maintenance

Power supply was interrupted in parts of Nairobi and Kirinyaga counties on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, to carry out essential maintenance works.

The company has, over time, said the outages are part of efforts to upgrade infrastructure, replace ageing components, and improve overall system stability.

In Nairobi, the affected areas included parts of Langata. Customers in NHC Langata, Southlands Estate, Langata Hospital, Akiba Estate, Civil Servants Langata, Rubia Estate, Uhuru Gardens, and adjacent areas experienced the planned interruptions.

Kenya Power had advised that power would be restored once maintenance was completed later in the evening.

Parts of Kirinyaga County, specifically Gitwe Primary, Gitwe Kiarura, and Kona Mbaya, also faced power interruptions during the same time frame, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Kenya Power maintenance works are part of broader infrastructure upgrades that have been ongoing in Nairobi and other urban centres to support growing electricity demand and reduce cases of voltage fluctuations and transformer failures.
