The Kenya Meteorological Department on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, predicted rainfall in some parts of the country.

In their statement, the weatherman indicated that Nairobi was among the areas set to receive rainfall between Wednesday, February 12, 2025, and Thursday, February 13, 2025.

The meteorological department detailed that areas within the city would experience light to moderate rainfall over the two days.

Other areas

Besides Nairobi, the weatherman noted that Highlands East of the Rift Valley would receive light rainfall. Areas under this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka counties.

The South-Eastern Lowlands will also receive rainfall according to the weatherman’s prediction. The counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta fall within the South-Eastern Lowlands.

“Most areas will remain dry and sunny, but light to moderate showers are likely over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Nairobi,” a statement from Kenya Met read in part.

The department explained that the light rainfalls follow high temperatures and sunny conditions experienced in various parts of the country for the past three weeks.

In the first weeks of January 2025, various areas recorded high rainfall. In Nairobi, the showers led to flooding of major roads and other areas within the satellite towns.

However, the rains subsided and paved the way for extremely high temperatures and sunny conditions accompanied by high temperatures.

Strong winds

Besides light rainfall, the department also predicted strong winds in Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya. In the notice, Kenya Met explained that the Northeastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo will record strong winds of 12.5 m/s+.

With different weather conditions expected in the next 48 hours, the department implored people to prepare accordingly.
