One person has died following a Wednesday dawn attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants on an ambulance that was ferrying a patient to Elwak in Mandera County.

In a report seen by Mediamax Digital, the ambulance was heading to Elwak from Kotulo when it was ambushed within Dabacity in Mandera County.

Photographs taken by security officers at the scene showed that the vehicle was extensively destroyed during the attack.

“One person has been killed, the driver of the ambulance injured and the vehicle totally destroyed,” the police report read in part. 

Mediamax Digital established that at the time of the attack the ambulance was carrying four people.

One of the passengers was critically injured while two others escaped with minor injuries.

However, officers managed to repulse the attackers before they could cause more harm and rushed the injured to Elwak Subcounty Hospital.
