Kasmuel McOure: Raila saved me from the pangs of death

Activist and ODM diehard Kasmuel McOure has said the late ODM Party leader Raila Odinga saved him from death.
Speaking during a media appearance at one of the local TV stations on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Kasmuel stated that it was Raila who came to his rescue when the Gen Zs betrayed and dumped him.
He recounted how he was mocked and turned into a meme following the aftermath of the June 25, 2024, protests.
“I was being turned into a meme, mocked by everyone, and it felt like I was on the edge,” McOure said, recalling how difficult that time was.
“When everybody had cancelled me, Raila took me up under his wing and mentored me. He had a burden for young people and knew how to uplift us when we were at our lowest,” he added.

McOure explained how Raila’s intervention not only helped him professionally but also saved him emotionally and mentally from what he described as the “pangs of death.
“Raila Odinga didn’t just save me from the streets. He saved my life,” McOure said, highlighting how his mentor’s belief in him restored his hope and direction.

Reflecting on Raila’s dedication to the youth, McOure praised his late mentor for consistently fighting for the country’s future.
“Raila Odinga vied for president five times, and the people failed him. He became prime minister because his election was stolen. He was saving the country, not cutting a deal,” McOure explained, expressing deep admiration for Raila’s selfless approach to leadership and his relentless pursuit of justice for Kenyans.
The activist noted that Raila’s commitment to the younger generation extended beyond politics.
“Raila didn’t just see young people as a voting bloc, but as the future of Kenya. He believed in us, even when everyone else turned their backs on us,” McOure said, detailing how Raila’s mentorship gave him a renewed sense of purpose.
MP Peter Salasya: Raila was my mentor too
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, another long-time supporter of Raila, also shared his reflections on the late ODM leader’s profound influence on his own political journey.
“Raila Odinga was my mentor since I started politics in 2014,” Salasya said.

He added that Raila’s wisdom and guidance were instrumental in his own rise in politics, especially in navigating the complex Kenyan political landscape.
Salasya further expressed his belief that Raila’s legacy transcended party lines, stating that he “should have been buried with the Kenyan flag and not the ODM stuff because he was beyond ODM.”
According to Salasya, Raila’s vision and sacrifices were for all Kenyans, not just his party members, and his contributions to the nation were far-reaching and transformative.
