Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has warned that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be arrested, prosecuted, and jailed upon his return to Kenya over his recent remarks made while in the United States.

In a statement shared on his X account on Sunday, August 10, 2025, Kaluma said the former DP’s comments had crossed a line and must be addressed through legal action.

“Gachagua will be arrested, prosecuted and jailed upon his return to Kenya. The exercise of human rights and fundamental freedoms must be balanced against the stability of the State,” Kaluma stated.

The warning comes amid growing calls for Gachagua to face prosecution after he claimed that President William Ruto’s administration has links with terror groups.

On Saturday, August 9, 2025, Gachagua was asked to record a statement over the allegations. While on his ongoing tour of the United States, he said that President Ruto met with three Al-Shabaab militia members at night to discuss business. He also claimed that the Head of State was involved in financing Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The remarks drew criticism from Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who demanded that Gachagua cooperate with investigators once he returns to Kenya.

CS Murkomen directed that the former DP should record a statement with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations immediately upon his arrival in the country. Speaking during the Keiyo South Economic Empowerment Program on Saturday, Murkomen accused Gachagua of using sensitive national security issues to advance his political agenda.

“He thinks that he is going to parade issues of terrorism in America to get votes,” Murkomen said.

The CS argued that since Gachagua had publicly claimed to have information on meetings with Al-Shabaab operatives, he must provide these details to investigators.

“As soon as he lands in Kenya, he must record a statement to tell us exactly which meetings he is having with terrorists,” Murkomen added.

However, Gachagua has insisted that he will not cooperate with Kenyan authorities, saying the matter is already in the hands of the American Senate.

“I am not talking ill of my country, just speaking the truth. I am not saying that Kenya is bad; it is a beautiful country, with good people, but with poor leadership,” he said.

The former deputy president also accused the government of failing to carry out its investigations into his claims.

“I saw the Ministry of Interior saying we should be asked to help with the investigations in this matter. We cannot assist in any investigations because the Kenyan government has not initiated any investigations against William Ruto,” Gachagua stated.
