Kakamega County is in mourning following the death of Doreen Amwoga, Chief Officer for Education and acting Chief Officer for Public Administration. The civil servant passed away after a brief illness.

Governor Fernandes Barasa announced her passing on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in a heartfelt condolence message, expressing profound shock at the loss.

“I mourn Ms. Doreen Amwoga as a consummate civil servant who worked diligently and exhibited exemplary loyalty to the government,” he said.

He described her as a pivotal figure in his administration, noting that her death “has left a big gap” in the county’s leadership.

Amwoga’s career with the Kakamega County Government began on November 1, 2014, when she was appointed as a ward administrator. Her dedication and competence saw her rise through the ranks.

On July 30, 2020, she was promoted to sub-county administrator. Her exemplary performance led to her appointment as acting Chief Officer for Education on July 7, 2022, and later as Chief Officer for County Administration on December 7, 2022.

In December 2024, she took on additional responsibilities as acting Chief Officer for Social Services, Youth, Gender, and Culture.

On March 8, 2025, she was confirmed as Chief Officer for Education while continuing to serve as acting Chief Officer for County Administration. Governor Barasa praised her as a supportive colleague who helped others understand their roles in public service.
