Kakai pleads with Ruto to employ Nakhumicha after revelation that she sells cabbages for a living

Kiminini Member of Parliament (MP) Maurice Kakai has asked President William Ruto to consider former Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Susan Nakhumicha for a job.
Speaking during the funeral service of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati held in Sabata village, Kiminini Constituency, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, Kakai spoke highly of Nakhumicha acknowledging her contributions to Chebukati’s well-being during his sickness struggles as revealed by Mary Chebukati, the wife of the former electoral boss.
He then asked Ruto to consider Nakhumicha for a position in future appointments as he contrinues restructuring and reshuffling his government.
“Your Excellency, I am the people’s representative of Kiminini, my sister Nakhumicha alikua hapo and she was doing a very good job, Mama Mary has said how competent, how kind, and how focused she was helping chairman ata ukiendelea kupanga panga, mkumbuke Nakhumicha,” he said.
Nakhumicha’s tale
The latest comes a day after Nakhumicha disclosed that she now sells cabbages and is struggling to make ends meet after her firing from cabinet.

Speaking during the memorial service for former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati in Sabata village, Kiminini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, on Friday, March 7, 2025, where she reflected on her bond with Chebukati, Nakhumicha revealed that her financial state restrained her from making monetary contributions to Chebukati’s widow.
“Tangu siku hio nimetazamia Mungu. Ata sasa ninafanya ukulima. Tangu sasa hio wakati sina kazi. Mimi nauza cabbages. Napanda cabbages kule Cherang’any. Ata sadaka ya matanga imekua ngumu ngumu hivi hivi. Lakini nkajaribu niende tukaketi na mama masaa sita na nikatoa sadaka yangu ya cabbages,” she said.
Reshuffling
The former CS was fired after President Ruto reshuffled his cabinet following the anti-government protests that rocked the country.
While nine former CSs at the time were reinstated, 12 others including Nakhumicha were left out.
The former health CS was replaced by Deborah Barasa.
