Junet: ODM will not be in a coalition of people who have been insulting Raila Odinga

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has vowed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will remain strong as it heads into the 2027 General Election, insisting that the party will not join forces with leaders who disrespected the late Raila Odinga by insulting him.
Speaking during Raila’s state funeral ceremony at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology in Siaya County on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Junet said ODM’s future remains secure and united under Raila’s enduring vision.
“We will hold ODM high and keep it strong,” Junet stated. “In 2027, ODM will either be in government or in the coalition that forms the government, but not in one that insulted Baba when he was alive.”
He maintained that ODM’s direction was clear and rooted in the values Raila instilled in his followers, adding that those who had built their politics around attacking the former prime minister had reached the end of their road.

Hitting back at critics who claimed his political career had ended with Raila’s death, Junet said those very individuals were also politically finished.
“Those who used to insult Baba for political gain are now finished. I don’t know who they will insult next,” he remarked.
Rejecting political opportunism
Junet, who has been one of Raila’s closest allies, said the party would not compromise its integrity for short-term political arrangements. “ODM will not be in a coalition of people who have been insulting Raila Odinga,” he declared.
He insisted that ODM’s future must be guided by loyalty, discipline, and respect for Raila’s legacy qualities he described as the foundation of the party’s 2027 strategy.
His remarks came as internal differences within ODM continue to emerge over Raila’s final political message.
ODM Secretary-General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has publicly differed with Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga on the late leader’s instructions ahead of the 2027 polls.
While Sifuna emphasised Raila’s call for electoral preparedness, Wanga maintained that Raila’s wish was for ODM to stay in a broad-based government for national unity.
