Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho has declared his intentions to secure a second wife in Kirinyaga to keep him warm while he oversees projects in the area.

Speaking in Kirinyaga County on Saturday, August 10, 2024, Joho humorously asked Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru to get him a wife to indulge him while he carries on with his duty.

“Mimi, I have asked Anne Waiguru, to please find me a young wife, I am moving here to ensure the fish project is completed so that the youth can get jobs. I want to assure the president that we will stand firm, we will work, and the citizens will understand us,” Joho declared.

Joho also emphasized his commitment to ensuring the success of the government’s initiatives in the area.

“I heard your governor saying that someone told her to leave the government. If I am in the government myself, how are you leaving? Haven’t you seen me here? I am in William Samoei Ruto’s government. The President has given us orders. I came here to check on the fish project, and he told me that after two months, he wants to come and see if it is completed,” Joho stated.

Joho elaborated on his plans to work closely with the local government and residents to ensure the youth secure jobs.

Joho assumes office

On Friday, August 9, 2024, Joho officially assumed office, succeeding Salim Mvurya.

This transition occurred following President William Ruto’s decision to appoint Mvurya to the role of Minister for Investments, Trade, and Industry, a position previously held by Rebecca Miano. The official handover took place at the ministry headquarters in Nairobi.

Joho expressed confidence in his new role, highlighting his commitment to creating job opportunities for the nation’s youth.

“I strongly believe that this ministry shall be the next frontier in both wealth and job creation for our country and I will work closely with the team from the ministry, my Cabinet colleagues and stakeholders to help achieve this aspiration,” in a statement on X.

The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Principal Secretaries Elijah Mwangi (Mining), Betsy Njagi (Blue Economy and Fisheries), and Geoffrey Kaituko (Maritime Affairs and Shipping), among others.
