Jeremiah Kioni: Mutahi Kahiga has outdone himself in disgrace
Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has blasted Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga for joyously celebrating the late Raila Odinga’s death.
Through a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Kioni did not mince his words, saying that when a parrot hurls insults, it only repeats what its master has taught it, a statement seemingly aimed at Kahiga’s political allies.
Kioni said Kahiga’s comments were not only shameful but also an embarrassment to the people of Nyeri and the Mt Kenya region at large.
“Mutahi Kahiga has outdone himself in disgrace. Let it be known that he spoke for himself, not for Nyeri, not for the mountain, and certainly not for Kenya,” Kioni said.
He went on to add, “To celebrate death and drag a whole community into your hate is the lowest form of politics. Shame on you! When a parrot insults a king, it’s only repeating its master’s words.”
Governor Kahiga, speaking earlier in Nyeri at a burial ceremony, had claimed that the late ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga’s death was part of God’s divine plan.

“You guys can see what had been planned, but God brought something up. Now it’s total confusion. Everybody can see that. We did not harbour hate for anyone, but God came through for us,” Kahiga said.
Kahiga’s controversial statement
He continued, “Because the plan that had been hatched, if you look keenly, for you who do not travel, because I was in that region, all goodies were being directed there because of tomorrow’s plans. But God came and brought this thing.”
Kahiga further remarked that divine intervention had “levelled the playing field” in Kenyan politics, saying, “Who is God? Does he take ugali at somebody’s house or sleep in Kayole?
“He came through in His own way. He saw up there that people in heaven are disagreeing a lot and came for Baba so that he can go and smooth things up there.”
Kioni’s rebuke follows a growing national backlash, with leaders across the political divide condemning Kahiga’s comments as insensitive and dangerous.
He urged leaders to use Raila’s passing as a moment of reflection and unity, not division, adding that the late Raila Odinga belonged to all Kenyans and deserved respect even in death.
