Milele FM presenter Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o has offered to sponsor Lewis Otieno, the boy who reported to Kanga High School in Migori County with nothing but a box containing two bars of soap.
Lewis reported for his Form One studies with the near empty box and no school fees.
But through a fortunate stroke of serendipity, someone took a photograph of him and shared it on social media.
His story touched the hearts of many people who empathized with him, including Jalango, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Quickmart supermarkets.
Through his Instagram page, Jalongo on Monday, January 14, 2020, announced that he is willing to help fund the boy’s secondary school education.
“Please someone confirm to me this story…Just seen it online. Trying to reach Kanga High School to verify the same. Through @trippygotours we will do a complete Form 1 shopping and pay his school from Form One to Form Four. If anyone has the principal’s phone number, please share in the DM,” said Jalang’o.
Speaking to K24 Digital on Tuesday, Jalang’o confirmed that the boy needs Sh53,0000 per year for tuition.
The Milele FM presenter promised to visit the school and urged Kenyans of good will to help raise funds to pay for the boy’s four years of education.
“If there is anyone willing to pay and contribute anything just send directly to the school pay bill which Paybill No. 522123 Account No. 57871K then indicate his name as LEVIS OTIENO RABAH,” he said.
He assured Kenyans that he would personally visit the school to ensure that any funds raised for the boy’s education have been received.
Other personalities that have offered to fund the boy include Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who called in live during Milele’s breakfast show.
Governor Joho also offered to pay the boy’s fees for the four years, pledging Sh250,000.
Quickmart supermarket offered to provide the boy with shopping for a whole term.
Lewis scored 390 marks out of the possible 500 in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations.
“Looking at the mum things don’t seem okay. Bac at home we will go beyond the school fees. Keep it here for all the update!! God above everything,” Jalang’o said on Instagram.
