Here we go! ODM top organ ratifies Oburu’s endorsement as party leader

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Governing Council (NGC) has approved Senator Oburu Oginga as the party leader.
The approval, made on Thursday, November 13, 2025, marks another major step in the party’s leadership transition process following earlier endorsements by the Central Committee.

Alongside Oburu, several other leaders were also approved to take up top roles within the party structure. According to the announcement made by ODM, Deputy Party Leaders Abdulswamad Nassir, Simba Arati, and Godfrey Osoti have been approved too. The council also gave a green light to Ariko Namoit and Opiyo Amollo as vice chairpersons.

In addition, Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga and Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu were approved as Deputy Organising Secretary and Secretary of Political Affairs, respectively. All appointments, however, remain subject to ratification by the National Delegates Convention (NDC).

Smooth leadership transition
The NGC’s approval follows an earlier decision made by the ODM Central Committee on October 27, 2025, to endorse Oburu Oginga as the new party leader. That meeting, held at the party’s headquarters, was the first major sitting of ODM’s top organ since the passing of the former party leader, Raila Odinga.
The endorsement was described as a unifying move aimed at maintaining party stability and ensuring a smooth leadership transition. Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who chaired the session, said the decision reflected the committee’s resolve to keep ODM united and strong through the transition.
“The party remains strong and steadfast in all its obligations and will rise stronger from adversity. This being the first meeting of the committee since the passing of the party leader, the top party organ resolved as follows: “That we endorse Hon. Dr Oburu Oginga as the new party leader,” the statement released after the meeting read in part.
With the NGC’s approval now secured, the next step will be for the National Delegates Convention (NDC) to ratify the new leadership structure. The appointments represent an effort to reinforce party unity and maintain ODM’s operational strength at both the national and grassroots levels.
The NDC’s ratification will officially confirm the leadership transition and set the stage for the party’s next phase under Oburu Oginga’s stewardship.
