Havi urges judiciary to uphold Manyora’s appointment as chair of Nairobi Hospital

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has thrown his weight behind the appointment of Herman Manyora as Chairman of Nairobi Hospital, terming the move as the most progressive step yet in restoring stability and integrity at the institution.
In a statement on August 2, 2025, Havi urged the judiciary to protect the appointment against what he described as sustained efforts by corrupt elements seeking to destabilise the hospital’s governance.
“The appointment of Herman Manyora as Chairman of Nairobi Hospital was the most progressive step hitherto in restoring order in the discredited leadership of the hospital,” he stated.
He decried what he called the “plundering” of the hospital by individuals with vested interests, insisting that the courts must act decisively to preserve the gains made under the new leadership.

“The judiciary should uphold the appointment and restrain the many thieves plundering the hospital,” he added.
Manyora’s appointment
Manyora, a renowned public intellectual and governance expert, was appointed to chair the Nairobi Hospital Board as part of a broader leadership overhaul aimed at reversing years of reported mismanagement and internal wrangles.
However, a Nairobi court on Monday, 7 July, suspended his appointment as Chairperson of the Kenya Hospital Association (KHA) board.
Manyora’s suspension follows a petition challenging the legitimacy of his claim to the position.
The political analyst’s position is now in limbo after the ruling, pending the determination of the petition challenging his tenure after the Board of Management of The Nairobi Hospital issued a public notice cautioning stakeholders and the general public against engaging with Manyora in any capacity.
According to the notice, Manyora’s claim to the chairmanship stemmed from what was described as a ‘self-appointment process not recognised under the laws and constitution governing the Association.’

Further, the board stressed that Manyora was neither authorised to act on behalf of KHA nor Nairobi Hospital.
“The institution will not be liable for any transactions or representations made by him or his agents,” the notice read.
