Gachagua: The killer squad was formed while I was in govt

The Former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, has made explosive claims that a covert killer squad, comprising 101 elite officers, was formed while he was still serving in government.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, Gachagua alleged that the squad was secretly constituted from officers within the Administration Police Service (APS) and taken through specialised training allegedly orchestrated by the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
According to Gachagua, these officers were not only trained in tactical operations but specifically groomed for abductions, extrajudicial killings, and elaborate cover-up strategies.
“This squad of 101 people was formed when I was still in government. The officers were recruited from the Administration Police unit for special training by the NIS on abductions, killings, and cover-ups,” he stated.
He further claimed that the unit operates under the direct command of NIS Director General Noordin Haji and is not affiliated with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), despite appearing to be.
“The National Intelligence Service has procured unmarked Subaru vehicles to create the false impression that this killer gang is part of the DCI. The truth is, this has nothing to do with DCI,” Gachagua emphasised.

These remarks come in the wake of a disturbing viral video that surfaced on July 7, 2025, depicting heavily armed, masked men in plain clothes shooting at unarmed protesters at an undisclosed location. Gachagua says that the individuals seen in the video were members of the same killer squad, describing the unit as a rogue force acting with impunity and in defiance of court orders against the use of excessive force on civilians.
“This killer squad, armed with assault rifles and operating in a convoy of unmarked Subarus, is shooting and killing innocent protesters indiscriminately. They are hooded and masked to hide their identity, and they masquerade as DCI officers to escape accountability,” Gachagua added.
Gachagua also ignited a wave of concern and raised urgent questions about the accountability of security forces and the role of intelligence services in civil operations.
“Stop killing our children, President. I’m urging the youths to consider registering to deal with Ruto once and for all, come 2027,” he appealed.
