Gachagua responds to accusations of exporting tribalism to the US

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hit back at politicians for castigating his ongoing tour of the United States of America.
Speaking during an engagement with the diaspora community, the DCP leader termed the assertion that he had exported tribal rhetoric abroad as desperate moves from a political class rattled after witnessing the unity among the Gikuyu community following his reception in the States.
“You have seen since I came here; they are all in a panic. I heard Musalia accusing me of exporting tribalism to America because I am simply talking to my people. Let them also talk to their people,” he stated on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
“They are all attacking me after realising our unity as a community is worldwide,” he stated.
Gachagua also spoke on the need for an honest assessment of the trajectory the country is taking, rather than hiding from that debate.
“I have heard them shouting and attacking me that I am talking badly about my country abroad. I am just talking about what is happening in my country. I am only talking about poor leadership. Kenya is a beautiful country, but with poor leadership. We have to be honest with ourselves. I cannot sit here and lie to you that things are going well. I will be a liar,” he added.

Gachagua’s sentiments come after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi faulted him for perpetuating tribalism during his tour.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary took a swipe at the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for exporting tribalism in the diaspora in his ongoing two-month tour of the state.
Speaking in Kajiado County on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Mudavadi faulted the Democracy for Citizens Party leader for electing to speak in his local dialect to the Kenyan community abroad.
“A person who has been a DP in this country, when you say you want to address people living in the diaspora in your local dialect, then you are exporting tribalism,” he stated.
