Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has promised to start naming and shaming Mount Kenya leaders whom he accused of betraying the community.

Gachagua has said the mastermind behind the plan is President William Ruto, but now he said his focus is to weaken the political vet of the UDA allies.

Addressing a rally on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Kiandai in Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County, the DCP boss claimed there was a concerted plot by the Kenya Kwanza government to divide the Mount Kenya region through the formation of smaller political vehicles to scatter votes

“Let us agree on what I will do. Wherever I go in Mount Kenya, I will be calling out the traitors by name so that people know them. Whether you are a man or a woman. We will tell our people who the traitors are so that the president does not finish this community,” Gachagua said.

He specifically called out Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, whom he claimed had plans to form a political party ahead of the 2027 polls

“I know Waiguru has been told to form a party. That is a wheelbarrow. If you see that party, know it is a wheelbarrow,” the former DP rallied.

The former DP had earlier claimed that Ruto plans to sponsor a presidential candidate from Murang’a County.

No sympathy for betrayers

Gachagua has warned women leaders in the region not to expect sympathy if they are part of what he sees as a betrayal of the community.

“Our women leaders, those of you betraying our community, we will deal with you as traitors. There is no distinction between men and women. A traitor is a traitor,” Gachagua said.

While citing the government’s decision on rice imports, Gachagua blamed the impasse between the state and rice farmers on the silence from Kirinyaga leaders, who he claimed had the power to stop rice imports.

As both the united opposition and Ruto’s camp beef up for the by-elections and 2027 contest, Gachagua has jolted Ruto over what he termed as an intent to divide the votes-rich region as a strategy to maintain his grip on power.

Speaking in Mbeere South on Saturday, October 11, 2025, the DCP leader castigated Ruto’s recent offensive to woo the KANU chairman, Gideon Moi, to his side while working behind the scenes to divide the people of the mountain.

“Ruto is hatching a plan against us. He has called his people from the Tugen, Marakwet, and Kipsigis to unite. But here at our home. He is sending Kindiki and other leaders to sow divisions among us,” he said.

“He knows that for him to remain in power, he has to divide the voters of Mt Kenya, but we are not fools; we have decided to put our votes in one basket. Let us not accept being divided by him and his people.”
