Kabogo cautions Mt Kenya against buying Gachagua’s narrative

Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Information and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has come out strongly in support of President William Ruto, warning those attempting to mislead the Mt Kenya region into political uncertainty ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a political gathering in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, on Sunday, July 13, 2025, Kabogo addressed what he described as divisive rhetoric by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies. The meeting, attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and several central Kenya leaders, served as a stage for leaders to outline their vision for the region’s political direction.
In his speech, Kabogo used metaphorical language to drive his point home, urging the community to back President Ruto rather than being swayed by tribal-based narratives.
“Someone is trying to tell us we are Kikuyus, and he wants us to be left in woes. And then the cow has milk, and now he is trying to tell us to leave that cow so that he can show us another cow. It moves based on what it has taken in.”

Kabogo backs Ruto
Kabogo implied that Gachagua is trying to confuse the community by using ethnic identity as a political tool, even when the current administration is working and delivering. He urged the region to maintain its focus on development and not to be distracted by leadership struggles that could cause instability.
“These are the ones with the sword. Let’s do this, and then we will come to talk about other things later. The person with the sword is William Ruto.”
Kabogo referred to Ruto as the constitutionally mandated leader and emphasised that Mt Kenya should cooperate with the person currently holding power rather than chasing political shadows.
His remarks come at a time when tensions are rising within the region, with Gachagua increasingly positioning himself as the kingpin of the mountain.
Kabogo’s endorsement is a significant signal of the political realignment happening in central Kenya, where leaders are positioning themselves ahead of 2027. He made it clear that Mt Kenya cannot afford to gamble with its stake in government and development.
