Gachagua cancels planned public address at Kamukunji Grounds

Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has cancelled his planned address to the public at the Kamukunji Grounds after jetting back to the country from a six-week tour of the United States.

Speaking during a brief stopover at the Ole Sereni area along Mombasa Road on Thursday, August 21, 2025, DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malalah noted that the procession would no longer proceed to Kamukunji Grounds.

Wacha tumpeleke mdosi nyumbani sasa,” Malalah said during the stop. (Gachagua will proceed to his home).

Planned address

Gachagua had initially planned to address members of the public along Mombasa Road in various areas before conducting a major rally at the Kamukunji Grounds.

However, it remains unclear why the plans have been cancelled and the procession dismissed.

Of note is that Gachagua’s procession ran into headwinds at the Airport North Road and City Kabanas area, where they were cornered by stone-throwing goons.

While supporters of Gachagua managed to repulse the goons and forge ahead, the confrontation was not without casualties.

Injuries and damages

Several people were injured, including journalists who were covering the live event. Their vehicles and equipment were destroyed during the melee. Several leaders accompanying Gachagua also complained that their cars were destroyed by the goons.

During the stopover at Ole Sereni, Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia disclosed that there had been an elaborate plot to arrest Gachagua shortly after he touched down at the JKIA at 2:00 pm.

Speaking during a brief stopover of the convoy at the Airtel area near Ole Sereni on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Methu revealed that the efforts by the police officers to nab Gachagua were, however, thwarted by supporters who had thronged the country’s largest airport.

“I want to sincerely thank the people of Nairobi for standing with us because at the airport, there were at least 200 police officers deployed to arrest Rigathi Gachagua, but you stood your ground as the foot soldiers of Gachagua,” Methu said.

Gachagua had been away from the country for the last six weeks, during which he held various meetings with Kenyans in at least six states of the USA.
