Gachagua accuses Ruto of blaming former allies for govt failures

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of blaming former allies to conceal his own failures in government.
Speaking during an interview on a local media station on June 27, 2025, Gachagua dismissed characterisations of himself and other former government officials as “political rejects,” insisting that their dismissals reflect Ruto’s tendency to blame others for systemic failures.
“We are not political rejects because the people of Kenya never rejected me. It’s William Ruto who rejected me. Justin Muturi was not rejected by the people of Kenya. He was rejected by William Ruto. Mithika Linturi was rejected by William Ruto. It’s only William Ruto who rejected us,” Gachagua stated.
Gachagua on CSs dismissal
He argued that the dismissal of former Cabinet members like Linturi and Muturi has not improved governance or service delivery.
“After I left, nothing has changed. After Kuria, nothing has changed. Muturi has left, and nothing has changed. Linturi has left, and nothing has changed. What is the common denominator here in terms of failure? It’s William Ruto,” he asserted.
Gachagua outlined specific areas where he claims government systems have deteriorated under Ruto’s leadership, contrasting current conditions with what he says were functional systems when the President took office.
“When he came in as president, we had a working health system. Today, it has collapsed. When he came in, we had a working university financing model. It has collapsed. When he came in, roads were going on across Kenya. They have all stalled,” he detailed.

Using an analogy, the former deputy president likened the president to a pickpocket who yells “thief” to distract attention from his own wrongdoing.
“It’s like in the streets when pickpockets or fellows who do mugging, you know, they would steal something from you, then shout thief thief thief thief. That is what William Ruto does to hide his own incompetence,” Gachagua remarked.
Cabinet reshuffle
He noted that the repeated reshuffles in Ruto’s Cabinet have yielded no tangible results, further underscoring what he called Ruto’s failure to lead.
“He has changed his cabinet four times. Nothing has changed. So, what is the common denominator that there is failure in the government in Kenya? That nothing is working. The common denominator across the whole scenario is William Ruto,” he reiterated.
According to Gachagua, the public is slowly turning against Ruto as Kenyans have realised the true source of government problems.
“You cannot say that we have been rejected by whom? We have been rejected by one person, and as it works, the people of Kenya are also rejecting him because with time they have realized where the problem is,” he added.
