Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Felix Koskei has lost his sister, Esther Chebet Rugut.
In a statement on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, Koskei confirmed the demise of Rugut but he did not immediately disclose what led to her death.
Felix eulogised his sister as a trailblazer whose legacy will be defined by the works she did to empower women in society.
The Head of Public Service further announced that his late sister would be laid to rest on Wednesday, December 18, 202,4 according to her last wishes.
“Fare thee well my dear sister Esther. We celebrate your legacy of women empowerment and shall abide by your wishes as we lay you to rest tomorrow,” Felix Koskei’s statement read in part.

Ruto leads in mourning
President William Ruto also led the country in mourning the death of Koskei’s sister. Besides her strong devotion to women empowerment, Ruto added that Rugut was a firm believer in family values.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs Esther Chebet Rugut, sister of the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. Rugut was a dedicated leader in her community, who leaves behind a legacy of women’s empowerment, service and strong family values. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her,” Ruto’s statement read in part.
“Our heartfelt condolences to Koskei and the entire family during this difficult time. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” it added.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also joined the Head of State in sending his condolences to Felix Koskei and their entire family.
