Esther Passaris mourns death of Raila Odinga’s younger sister
Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has expressed her sadness over the passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga, the younger sister of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a statement shared on her X account on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, she shared her condolences on social media, sending her sympathy to Beryl’s children, the Odinga family, and all their friends. Passaris said her thoughts and prayers were with the family during this difficult time.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga, younger sister of our Late Baba Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga. My heartfelt condolences go to her children, the Odinga family, and all family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time,” the lawmaker expressed.
The news of Beryl’s death was confirmed by Raila Odinga’s elder sister, Ruth Odinga, who revealed that Beryl passed away on Tuesday, November 25. The family has not disclosed the cause of her death.

Beryl Achieng Odinga was the daughter of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President, and Mary Ajuma Oginga. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Ami, Auma, Chizi, and Taurai, and was widely known among family and friends for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support for her loved ones.
“It is with a heavy heart, but accepting the will of God, we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga. Daughter of the Late Hon Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga. Mother to Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai. Sister to Senator Oburu Oginga, Rt Hon Raila Odinga, Akinyi Wenw, among others. Sister-in-law to Dr Anne Oburu, Dr Canon Ida Odinga, Hon Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu,” Ruth stated.
Adding;
“While we are deeply saddened by her demise and the immense void left in our lives, we take solace in the belief that she is safe in the Lord’s arms and are thankful for the invaluable gift of the time we were privileged to share with her and for the profound impact she had on all who knew her.”
Beryl’s death comes just weeks after the nation mourned the passing of her brother, Raila Odinga, marking a period of sorrow for the Odinga family and the country.
