Nairobi Woman representative, Easther Passaris, has expressed her support and sympathy for former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated senator Gloria Orwoba, following her recent dramatic arrest.

Passaris took to her official X account on Friday, August 28, 2025, lauding her support for the embattled Orwoba, expressing solidarity with her amid mounting public scrutiny and legal battles.

On her part, Passaris has emphasised that no leader deserves the stress and humiliation she saw Orwoba go through the previous day.

“My prayers are with Senator Gloria Orwoba as she navigates this difficult storm. No leader deserves the stress and humiliation I saw her go through yesterday. We may have had our differences, but that is immaterial,” Passaris said.

Passaris affirmed that as a mother and a woman in leadership, she stands with her in prayer while firing a warning against any injustice done to her.

“Today, as a colleague, a mother, and a woman in leadership, I stand with her in prayer. If there was any injustice done, I trust that the courts and ultimately God will vindicate her. May she find peace and strength in this season,” Passaris said.

FIDA reacts after the arrest

Likewise, FIDA has called for the rights of former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba to be respected following a dramatic standoff at the Senate on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

In a statement shared on its X account, the women’s rights organisation expressed concern over the incident, emphasising the importance of treating Orwoba with the dignity and respect that every woman deserves. FIDA stressed that her legal rights should be fully protected and that the rule of law must be observed throughout the proceedings.

The organisation confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to advocate for the senator’s fair treatment.

“We have noted the unfortunate developments involving @gloria_orwoba and are monitoring the situation. She must be treated with the dignity and respect due to every woman, and her rights must be upheld without violation. The rule of law must be fully observed in this matter.”

Dramatic arrest

Orwoba’s vehicle was towed away after she used it to block the Senate gate.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, shortly after she was denied access to the Senate, despite citing a court order that she claimed temporarily reinstated her to her position.

Orwoba was seen attempting to prevent the tow truck from taking her vehicle, struggling to dismantle the chains securing it, but her efforts proved futile.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale attempted to intervene and calm the situation, although his efforts were unsuccessful.

Orwoba continued to push back against the enforcement team as they towed away her white Land Cruiser Prado, but the standoff ended unsuccessfully.

The confrontation ended with three female police officers manhandling her and escorting her away from the scene.
