Embu senator warns Mt Kenya residents against fighting govt

Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has criticised residents of the Mt Kenya region for showing ingratitude toward the government, despite the region benefiting significantly from government support.
Speaking in Mbeere South on Monday, September 1, 2025, the Senator called out Mt Kenya residents for not fully supporting the government, despite the region enjoying key political appointments, including the Deputy President position and eight Cabinet Secretary slots.
“Na ni sisi tuko na Cabinet Secretary nane na nisisi tuko na shida na Deputy President Kithure ni mtoto wetu,” Mundigi said.
Translation: “We have eight Cabinet Secretaries, and even so, we have issues. Deputy President Kithure is one of our own.”
Condemning political slogans
Mundigi further cautioned residents against allowing the removal of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to fuel frustration against the government.
“Sasa hapa kwetu juu mtu alitimuliwa, kitu ya kwanza mnajua mbona alitimuliwa,” Mundigi said,
He also cited President William Ruto’s record, including stabilising the economy, initiating development projects nationwide, and creating employment opportunities locally and abroad.

The senator stressed that opposition politicians are attempting to isolate Mt Kenya from government support and urged residents not to be swayed by empty rhetoric.
He added that while most regions in the country are firmly behind President William Ruto and that only Mt Kenya continues to pose a political challenge.
“Ukienda Coast two term, Nyanza two term, Rift Valley two term. Sasa hapa ni hapa kwetu tuu,”
Loosely translating to“Western, Nyanza, Coast, Rift Valley, and North Eastern Regions are solidly behind President Ruto. It is only in Mt Kenya where we are having a challenge,” he noted.
The Senator urged Mt Kenya residents to remain united and continue supporting the government, emphasising that sustained cooperation would ensure more equitable development across the region while preserving the gains already secured under President Ruto’s leadership.
