DCP urges Kenyans to gather at JKIA for Gachagua’s return

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has called on Kenyans to converge at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to welcome their party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, upon his scheduled return from the United States on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
In a statement read by the party’s interim deputy, Cleophas Malala, on Monday, August 18, 2025, DCP confirmed that its party leader’s return is on schedule.
The party urged the public to arrive at JKIA from 8 am to ensure proper organisation, noting that supporters are expected to travel from across the country, including Teso Land and other regions.
“Last week, we announced that our party leader, Rigathi Gachagua, will return to the country on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at noon from the USA. We want to confirm that his return is as scheduled. We have supporters travelling from all over, including Teso Land, and we want to ensure smooth coordination,” the party said.
It called on Kenyans to show up at JKIA early to receive the party leader and participate in a peaceful march that will begin at the airport.
The statement emphasised that security arrangements have been requested from the police, and the party warned that there should be no attempts to block or disrupt the people’s gathering.
The DCP confirmed that a formal letter had been submitted to the Inspector General of Police notifying the force of the planned event.
“We call on the people of Kenya to show up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 8 am to receive our beloved party leader. We shall have a peaceful walk that will begin at JKIA. We ask the police to provide security and should not dare to protest against the people of Kenya. We have also submitted a letter to the Inspector General of Police notifying him of the planned activity,” the statement added.

The party explained that the early gathering at 8 am is meant to allow for adequate organisation, given the large number of supporters expected from all corners of the country.
Warning
The DCP also claimed that they have reports that President William Ruto was planning to divert Gachagua’s plane, warning that any such attempt would not succeed.
It noted that its supporters have been instructed to remain on standby in case of such a development.
On that note, the party insisted that the supporters will act in a non-confrontational manner, mirroring the approach taken during previous political tensions, including Gachagua’s impeachment, when the party asked followers to remain calm and resort to singing rather than protests.
“We are also informed that Deputy President William Ruto is allegedly planning to divert Gachagua’s plane. We warn him that any such attempt will not succeed. Our supporters have been instructed to remain on standby in a non-confrontational manner.”
