DCP supporters march to CBD after Gachagua lands at JKIA

Supporters of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua are expected to march from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) following the arrival of Gachagua in the country after six weeks in the United States.

In a press conference on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malalah stated that the supporters will make a peaceful procession from the country’s main airport into the Nairobi Central Business District, where Gachagua will address the public.

“Once our party leader touches down, we shall have a peaceful procession into the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) to address our supporters and the people of Kenya at various stopovers,” Malalah said.

“We have advised the National Police Service through various OCSs accordingly and given a copy of the advisory to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).”

“To IPOA, you are aware that the opposition has been a major victim of police brutality across the country, with no action from your end. If it is forgotten, I invite you to recall instances of police brutality and assassination attempts on Rigathi Gachagua and his allies,” Malalah added.

Hundreds of supporters of Gachagua began the march to the CBD, which is approximately 16 kilometres from JKIA.

Gachagua’s USA trip

Gachagua departed Kenya for the United States on July 9, 2025, for a two-month-long diaspora engagement tour. He arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on July 10, where he kicked off his trip, with his initial itinerary including engagements in the cities of Seattle, Dallas, Boston, and Baltimore.

During his visit, Gachagua engaged with the Kenyan diaspora, held town hall meetings, and attended social gatherings. However, his trip was cut short unexpectedly. He ended his tour to return to Kenya to lead his party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), in preparing for the upcoming by-elections. Gachagua apologized to his supporters in the US, stating that the remaining engagements would be rescheduled for early next year.
