Curtains fall as Lenny Kivuti’s mum is laid to rest in emotional Embu burial

Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti’s mother, Canon Peninah Ciambogo Ngungi, was laid to rest on Saturday, November 29, 2025, in Kanyuambora, Embu County, in a deeply emotional burial ceremony.

The proceedings began at ACK Church in Kanyuambora, where family, friends, and well-wishers gathered to pay their respects before she was taken to her home for the final rites.

The burial was marked by moments of deep grief, with close family members visibly breaking down as they said their goodbyes.

Leaders from across the country, including former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and former Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, attended the funeral, joining the community in honouring the late matriarch’s life and legacy.

During the service, Lenny Kivuti expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had taken time to attend, acknowledging the comfort and strength the family drew from their support.

“Dear family and friends, From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being with us today to say goodbye to my beautiful mother,” he said.

He reflected on his mother’s life, highlighting her generosity, faith, and the love she showed to everyone around her.

He noted that seeing so many people whose lives she had touched brought the family a measure of peace amidst their sorrow.

“Your presence, your kind words, your hugs, the stories you shared, and the love you showed meant more to us than you will ever know. In the midst of such deep sadness, seeing so many people who loved her (and who love us) gave us the strength and comfort we desperately needed. Mom would have been so touched to see home filled with the people whose lives she brightened every single day. Knowing she was surrounded by that love, even in her final farewell, brings me peace,” he added.

The family also thanked well-wishers for their gestures, from sending flowers and cards to providing meals and travelling long distances to attend the funeral.

Lenny described these acts as a source of strength, saying they lifted the family during one of their most difficult moments.

“We are forever grateful for each of you—for taking time out of your lives, for traveling distances, for the flowers, the cards, the meals, and most of all for holding us up when we could barely stand. With all our love and gratitude, asanteni sana,” he added.
