Consolata Wakhabubi has officially taken the oath of office as a nominated senator, filling the seat vacated by Gloria Orwoba.

The swearing-in ceremony marks a significant development in the political landscape as Wakhabubi assumes her new role in the Senate.

Wakhabubi’s ascension follows Orwoba’s ouster, which created a vacancy that needed to be filled to maintain the full complement of nominated senators representing various interests in the upper house.

In her inaugural address on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Senator Wakhabubi pledged to uphold the constitution and work diligently to address the concerns of Kenyans. She emphasised the importance of unity, good governance, and legislative oversight in promoting national development.

“The Senate is a critical platform for safeguarding the interests of all Kenyans, and I am honoured to serve in this capacity. I commit to working with my colleagues to ensure that our legislative agenda reflects the aspirations of the people,” Wakhabubi said.

Her appointment comes at a time when the Senate is intensifying efforts to oversee devolution and county governments, a key pillar in Kenya’s governance structure.

 Wakhubi’s gazettement

Gloria Orwoba has officially been replaced as a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated Senator following a gazette notice issued by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson, naming Consolata Nabwire as her replacement.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed through a press release that the party’s disciplinary committee had unanimously voted to expel her after several petitions citing violations of Article 29 of the party’s constitution.

Consolata Nabwire, who was designated as Orwoba’s replacement in May 2025, extended her appreciation to the Party Leader, President William Ruto, for nominating her to the Senate under the Kenya Kwanza government. She also thanked the UDA Party and its members for the overwhelming support and congratulatory messages she received during this milestone.

She reaffirmed her commitment to representing the people of Bungoma County in the Senate effectively.

Consolata has been championing Kenya Kwanza policies at the grassroots level, particularly in Bungoma County.

She has actively participated in party political meetings in the Western region and has been an ardent supporter of President William Ruto since his tenure as Deputy President.
