‘Clean sweep!’ – Kalonzo warns all leaders could be voted out in 2027

Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warned current political leaders that they risk a mass ouster in the 2027 elections if they fail to act decisively and serve the people.
Speaking during the Inter-Party Cooperation For The Young Generation Forum on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Kalonzo emphasised that complacency will no longer be tolerated.
He left no doubt about the consequences of weak leadership. “Now, if you’re spineless, I tell you,” he said, “the practice of Kenyans after every five years is clear: over 80% of leaders, members of parliament and the Senate go home.”
Kalonzo continued, stressing that the upcoming elections could see a dramatic shift if leaders fail to act with integrity.
“It looks to me that this time is going to be a clean sweep because Kenyans won,” he said, highlighting the power of citizens to demand accountability and change.

The veteran politician challenged leaders to rise to the occasion. “This is your moment to show that you are committed to serving Kenyans, not just holding office,” he said, urging lawmakers to remember that authority comes with responsibility.
He also reminded leaders that the electorate is watching every move. “The people are not blind; they see when leaders act out of self-interest, when they ignore duties, or when they fail to stand for what is right. Those who do not take this seriously may find themselves out of office,” Kalonzo added.
Kalonzo stressed that over the past decades, entrenched corruption and weak leadership have stalled national development. He pointed to the need for strong institutions and constitutional oversight rather than reliance on “strong men” to lead the country.
“What Kenya needs is really no strong men anymore. Kenya needs strong institutions. We have the EACC, for example. Is it strong? Is it compromised?” he asked, drawing attention to ongoing challenges in governance.

He also critiqued the handling of corruption and accountability measures. Referencing President William Ruto’s establishment of a multitasking agency to tackle corruption, Kalonzo said some parliamentarians failed to respond appropriately.
“After telling members of parliament, ‘You’re all corrupt,’ they all left. You can give a dog a bad name and then kill it. This is the challenge we face,” he said, urging leaders to regain public trust.
