Ruto congratulates Gor Mahia after FKF PL title triumph
President William Ruto has conveyed his congratulatory message to Gor Mahia FC after the club’s official coronation as the new champions of the Kenyan top-tier league this Sunday, May 31, 2026.
K’Ogalo was presented with the immaculate silver trophy after their 1-0 loss to Nairobi United at Nyayo National Stadium, marking a record 22nd domestic title as one of the country’s most decorated football clubs.
Following the feat, the head of state lauded the achievement in a heartfelt message to players, the technical bench, and the club’s loyal supporters.
Historic achievement
“Congratulations to Gor Mahia FC on winning the 2025/2026 SportPesa Premier League title and securing a historic 22nd league championship,” part of Ruto’s statement read.
Ruto also used the opportunity to extoll Gor for its storied legacy in Kenyan football and its deep connection with the Kenyan people.
“For generations, Gor Mahia has occupied a special place in the hearts of football fans across our country. The club’s rich legacy continues to inspire young Kenyans to pursue their dreams, embrace teamwork, and strive for excellence. This victory is not only a proud moment for the club and its supporters but also a celebration of the continued growth and promise of Kenyan football,” his statement read.

As Gor Mahia shifts focus to the continental assignment in the CAF Champions League games for next season, Ruto has assured the team of the Kenyans’ goodwill during their exploits against African peer clubs.

“As you prepare to represent our nation in the CAF Champions League, carry with you the pride and goodwill of all Kenyans. We are confident that you will continue to fly our flag high and showcase the talent, determination, and fighting spirit that define our country,” he said.
Gor Mahia, under the tutelage of Ghanaian Charles Akonnor, clinched the league title with two games to spare on May 24, 2026, after arch rivals AFC Leopards dropped points away to APS Bomet.
The now record-breaking 22-time league title was officially handed over to the team this Sunday by Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohammed and club patron Eliud Owalo, among other dignitaries.
K’Ogalo wrapped up their campaign with 69 points, five points clear of runners-up AFC Leopards, following a thrilling rivalry between the two hugely followed clubs.
