Caleb Amisi: 90% of speeches at Baba funeral came from hypocrites

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has regretted that most speeches made during the funeral of the late enigma and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga came from hypocrites.
Through his X handle on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Amisi said that those who cried the loudest during the state funeral at Bondo were the same people who abandoned the late Raila when he needed them the most.

The legislator described the event as a stage for political posturing rather than genuine mourning, noting that the country’s most dedicated champion of democracy deserved better.

He expressed disappointment that many politicians who had previously opposed Raila turned his burial into a platform to appear loyal and to please the government of the day.
“90% of speeches at Baba’s funeral came from hypocrites,” Amisi wrote. “For example, Kingi says he was too loyal to Baba, and yet he left Baba last election when Baba needed him most.
“He even formed his own party, supported Baba’s opponent, and abused him properly. Wonders will never cease,” he added.

The Saboti MP accused several leaders of pretending to have been close to Raila, yet their actions in the past told a different story.
“I came to Bondo today to mourn the country’s most committed champion of democracy, only to find a tight competition among people trying to secure their jobs in Ruto’s government and prove who among them was as close to Baba as his skin,” he said.

Amisi’s remarks reflect growing public frustration over political insincerity, with some Kenyans agreeing that many leaders appear to align themselves with popular sentiment only when it suits their interests.

The MP further questioned why many speakers ignored the family of the late Raila Odinga, led by Mama Ida, and instead focused on self-serving statements.
“Then I ask myself, what happened to sending condolences to the family led by Ida Odinga and saying who Baba was and what he did?” he asked.
Amisi concluded by invoking a heartfelt appeal for forgiveness.
“Baba, please forgive them, for they do not know what they are saying nor doing in your funeral,” he said.
The late Raila Odinga was laid to rest in an elaborate state funeral at his home in Kango Ka Jaramogi, Bondo, Siaya County, in a ceremony attended by thousands of mourners and dignitaries from across the world.
