Mwangi launches bid
Meanwhile, his announcement on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, has sparked public conversations across the country.
Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has declared that he will run for the presidential seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Mwangi launched his 2027 presidential bid on Wednesday during Katiba Day at Ufungamano House.
The activist now joins a list of several other candidates who have ambitions to unseat President William Ruto. Among those with interests in vying for the presidential seat are Mumias East MP Peter Salasya and former Chief Justice David Maraga, among others.
During the launch, Mwangi invited Kenyans to reflect upon his historic journey and unveil a significant transition towards a new chapter for Kenya.
“To mark 15 years since the promulgation of the Constitution, let’s gather to honour what we have done together, out of love for our country,” he said.
Boniface Mwangi also added, “We have always fought for a better country, and now it is time to unveil new possibilities of building that Kenya, a Kenya that works for all of us.”
Bold call to Kenyans
The human rights activist Boniface Mwangi declared that not even his death will halt Kenya’s push for a better future, announcing that he will contest the presidency in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during the launch of his bid at Ufungamano House on Wednesday, August 25, 2025, Mwangi, a long-standing champion for constitutionalism and the rule of law, said his decision stems from a deep love for the country and a desire to end decades of bad leadership.
“I have chosen this day to announce that I will be running for the president of the Republic of Kenya,” he affirmed. “I am a husband, a father, and a patriot of Kenya, and like most of you, I love this country deeply.”
Mwangi revealed that his family initially struggled to accept his decision. “When I told my family that I would be running, Nate cried. He remembers us living in exile and told me, ‘But Dad, they will kill you,” he recalled.
