National Assembly Committee on Administration and Security on Tuesday asked Deputy President William Ruto to apologise to President Uhuru Kenyattta over a slur on former First Lady Mama Ngina made by his allies.

The committee, chaired by Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange, claimed that the two lawmakers, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and his Emurua Dikirr colleague Johanna Ng’eno, were just mere mouthpieces for DP Ruto.

DP Ruto’s caution issued on his Twitter account on Monday evening to unspecified lawmakers urging them to observe restrain in speech, the committee said, is not sufficient.

On Tuesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered the Emurua MP to be charged with hate speech and conduct likely to breach peace over his remarks against President Kenyatta and members of his family.

The MP was arrested on Monday at his home in Transmara, Narok County after a video clip surfaced online in which he attacked President Kenyatta and his family over the frayed relations among top leaders in the ruling Jubilee Party.

As security officers were arresting Ng’eno, his vocal colleague Sudi took to his social media pages to hurl insults at the President and former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

With Sudi and Ng’eno trending on social media, DP Ruto quickly fired a tweet to leaders, urging them to avoid using “unsavoury words against mothers and Head of State.

“No amount of anger justifies use of offensive insulting language. There exists decent ways to communicate however one fells,” said Ruto.
